Child-Resistant Snus Packaging
Our child-resistant (CR) snus cans are independently tested and certified to ISO 8317:2015 — the international standard for child-resistant packaging. Required by regulation in multiple markets, and increasingly expected by responsible brands everywhere.
Why Child-Resistant Packaging?
Regulatory Requirement
The EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) and US PACT Act increasingly require child-resistant packaging for nicotine products. Several US states mandate CR packaging for all nicotine pouch and snus products.
Brand Responsibility
Leading snus and nicotine pouch brands adopt CR packaging proactively — it signals responsible manufacturing and reduces product liability exposure in all markets.
Market Access
CR-compliant packaging is increasingly a prerequisite for retail placement and e-commerce platform approval. Having ISO 8317 certification removes market access barriers before they appear.
Child-Resistant Mechanisms
We offer two distinct CR mechanism designs, both independently certified to ISO 8317. Choose based on your brand’s aesthetic preference and user experience goals.
Triangle Lock
A push-rotate mechanism where the lid must be pressed down at a specific point and rotated simultaneously. Intuitive for adults after first use, but effectively prevents casual opening by children.
Three-Edge Lock
A squeeze-and-lift mechanism with three locking points around the lid perimeter. Requires coordinated finger pressure — easy for adults, effectively resistant to children’s opening attempts.
ISO 8317 Testing Protocol
Our CR packaging is tested by accredited third-party laboratories following the full ISO 8317:2015 protocol — not simplified or abbreviated versions.
Child Test Panel
Children aged 42-51 months tested in pairs. Each pair given 5 minutes to open the package without demonstration, then 5 minutes after a non-verbal demonstration of the opening method.
Maximum 15% of children may open the package within the combined 10-minute test period to achieve certification.
Adult Use Test Panel
Adults aged 50-70 years tested individually. Each given 5 minutes to open and re-secure the package without instruction, then 1 minute after reading printed instructions.
Minimum 90% of adults must successfully open and properly re-close the package to pass the adult-use requirement.
